India planning special renewable energy zones

NEW DELHI: To bring down the cost of renewable energy (RE) systems, India is chalking out a comprehensive plan for creating “special RE zones”, Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said Wednesday.

Speaking at the foundation day ceremony of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) here, Abdullah said as a result of efforts made during the past two decades, significant infrastructure has emerged for the manufacture of different renewable energy systems.

“The ministry would chalk out a comprehensive plan for creating special RE zones, which besides manufacturing green technologies, would be developed around green principles,” he said.Abdullah said to leverage the expertise the country has developed in the field over the years.

“Apart from catering to the growing export market, the other advantages of the proposed RE manufacturing hubs would be in terms of a bringing down the costs of renewable energy systems,” he added.(IANS)
