Varun Dhawan has revealed that his father, filmmaker David Dhawan, once wanted to include a joke about his smile in his latest film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. Speaking on comedian Tanmay Bhat’s show, Varun recalled how he never expected his smile to become a subject of online jokes. The actor said he initially thought he would be criticised for things like his voice, height or acting rather than his smile. However, he later learned to laugh at the memes and trolling, admitting that some jokes, including one comparing his smile to a biscuit, were genuinely funny. Varun also shared that David Dhawan had proposed a scene in which his character’s children would inherit the same smile, purely to make audiences laugh at him. Although the director was keen on including the gag, the idea was eventually dropped from the film. Varun took the teasing in good humour and described the episode as amusing. (IANS)
