The training programme has brought together 59 master trainers, comprising 44 officials from various districts of Assam, and 15 officials from the Directorate of Census Operations (DCO), Assam.

The programme aims to build a strong pool of trainers who will train 1109 field trainers. The field trainers will subsequently impart training to 83,535 enumerators and supervisors (including reserved) for the effective implementation of Census 2027 across the state.

The inaugural session was graced by Biswajit Pegu, census-cum-chief principal census officer, Assam; Jatin Bora, secretary, General Administration Department, Assam; Pritam Dutta, IDAS, director (ENP), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India and IIE, Guwahati; Partha Pegu, state government nodal officer for Census 2027 among other officials and dignitaries.

Addressing the participants, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of Census 2027 as a crucial national exercise for evidence-based planning, governance, and policy formulation.

The officials emphasised the vital role of master trainers in ensuring the successful conduct of the Census by imparting quality training to field functionaries and maintaining high standards of data collection.

The technical sessions on the first day covered key aspects of the training skills, house listing and housing census operations, including census concepts, procedures, field protocols and the use of digital tools and applications designed for Census 2027.

Interactive discussions and demonstrations enabled participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of their roles, responsibilities and training methodologies.

Notably, the training is being imparted by four national trainers. The participants are being trained in two batches to facilitate focused learning and effective interaction.

The programme will continue over the next three days with intensive technical and practical sessions aimed at strengthening the capacity of the master trainers to conduct cascading training programmes across the state.
