Unclaimed body
An unidentified man was found injured in a suspected hit-and-run accident on the roadside at 13th Mile, NH-6, Byrnihat, on April 18 at around 7:18 pm. He was initially taken to Byrnihat PHC before being referred to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, for further treatment. The man, who had reportedly been loitering in the Byrnihat area for a prolonged period and had no known relatives, succumbed to his injuries at 12:05 am on June 5. The body has currently been kept NEIGRIHMS mortuary for identification and claim. According to police, the deceased is approximately 40 to 50 years old, 5.2 feet tall, has medium build, with a swarthy complexion, a moustache and short black hair. At the time of the accident, he was wearing a blue T-shirt and a pair of dark blue track pants. In this regard, police have urged anyone with information regarding the identity or address of the deceased to contact the Police Control Room (PCR), Nongpoh, at 9856084514.
Tournament
The ‘NEEPCO Inter Project Football Tournament 2026’ was inaugurated by Chief Secretary Dr Shakil P Ahammed in the presence of former India international footballer Eugeneson Lyngdoh at the RUFC Ground, Shillong. Bringing together teams from NEEPCO’s projects and stations, the tournament celebrates the spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and camaraderie. The tournament will continue until June 12, 2026, culminating with the closing ceremony which will also feature the distribution of prizes.
