Tura, June 11: Residents of Dadenggre in West Garo Hills along with leaders of local groups, nokmas and community leaders on Thursday organized a protest rally in the area, demanding that the MePDCL once again take charge of power supply in the area instead of the SAI Computers Limited.

The protest by the local residents comes in the wake of allegations of pathetic power supply service provided by the said company (SAI Computers Limited) despite the high rate of bills charge from consumers. As per claims by residents, power bills increased 2-3 fold since the company took over even as service provided has been anything but satisfactory.

The protest rally began from the Dadenggre bazaar bypassing the MePDCL office located near Dadenggre Block office, where the protesters shouted slogans condemning the poor service provided by the company.

“The SAI Computers Limited should discontinue supplying power to the area. We want the MePDCL to take charge of power supply once again,” the protestors stated.

Meanwhile, it was also decided by the people during Thursday’s gathering to submit a memorandum on the matter soon, to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
