Ahire to lead India U19 against SL U19 in white ball series
NEW DELHI, June 11: Wicket-keeper Bhavika Ahire will lead India Women’s squad against Sri Lanka in the upcoming Under-19 limited overs series at home.The BCCI’s Women’s Selection Committee picked the squads on Thursday for the series, comprising three T20 matches and as many One-Day games.The three T20 matches will be played in Chennai starting June 22, while Puducherry will host the ODIs from June 30. The series will conclude on July 6.Mumbai opener Ira Jadhav is also a part of both the squads. Jadhav came into prominence last year, becoming the first Indian to score a triple hundred in U19 cricket.She made a 346 against Meghalaya in the U19 Women’s One-Day Trophy in Alur, Bengaluru, in January last year.

Wimbledon increases prize money by 20%
LONDON, June 11: Amid players’ calls for a bigger share of revenues, Wimbledon on Thursday announced 20% increases in total prize money and for the singles champions, who will earn 3.6 million pounds ($4.8 million) at the grass-court Grand Slam next month.The total prize money including player per diems will be 64.2 million pounds ($85.8 million), All England Club chair Deborah Jevans said at a press conference.Players have long been calling for a greater share of revenues from the four Grand Slams and recently began taking steps toward collective action.Ahead of the French Open, No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka said players should at some point organize a boycott if their demands aren’t met. Men’s No. 1 Jannik Sinner, Coco Gauff and others also spoke out.Then, in pre-tournament news conferences at Roland Garros, top-10 players limited their sessions with journalists to 15 minutes in symbolic protest of their share of the tournament revenues.Just over a year ago, 20 leading players signed a letter to the heads of the four Grand Slams seeking more prize money and a greater voice in decision making. Dehradun hosts National Ice Hockey Championship
DEHRADUN, June 11: The National Ice Hockey Championship, featuring Under-12 and Under-15 categories for both boys and girls for the first time, got underway here on Thursday for nearly a month-long run that will conclude on July 8.Being organised at the Himadri Ice Rink here, the championship will serve as a key platform for talent identification, athlete development and national team selection.The introduction of the Under-12 and Under-15 categories is part of Ice Hockey Association of India’s (IHAI) Long-Term Athlete Development Programme.Participating units include Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Sikkim and host state Uttarakhand.The growth of Ice Hockey in India has been inspired by the achievements of the Indian women’s team, whose historic bronze medal at the Asia Cup last year created a buzz.The Championship will feature competitions across multiple age groups and is expected to attract hundreds of athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers from different regions of India, making it one of the largest Ice Hockey gatherings ever held in the country.
