Thai woman accused of murdering US diplomat
BANGKOK, June 11: A Thai woman appeared before a court in Yangon, Myanmar, on Thursday to face murder charges in connection with the killing of an American diplomat. She was also charged under Myanmar’s immigration laws applicable to foreign nationals accused of crimes. The diplomat was found dead on May 11 at the Sakura Residence & Hotel, near the US Embassy, with stab wounds to the head and neck. Authorities have not released the identities of either the victim or the accused. If convicted, the woman could face a sentence ranging from 10 years in prison to the death penalty. Thailand said it is providing consular assistance to the suspect. (AP)

China: 7 killed, 17 injured in explosion
BEIJING, June 11: At least seven people were killed and 17 others injured in an explosion in Xing’an County in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Thursday. According to local police, the blast occurred in the early hours of the day, prompting senior officials from Guilin City and Xing’an County to rush to the scene and oversee rescue and emergency response efforts. All injured victims were taken to hospital, with authorities stating that none are in life-threatening condition. Rescue operations remain ongoing. Preliminary investigations have ruled out pipeline gas and similar factors as the cause, while public security authorities continue to investigate the incident. (PTI)

In u-turn Nepal withdraws ban on Indian mangoes
KATHMANDU, June 11: Nepal has clarified that it has not imposed a ban on Indian mango imports, reversing earlier reports of restrictions linked to pesticide concerns and inadequate quarantine facilities. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment said import permits are being issued in line with market demand and existing regulations. A mango consignment recently stopped at the Bhittamod quarantine checkpoint in Madhes Province was later released after Indian authorities provided a plant health certificate. Nepal said biosecurity measures, including inspections and hot-water treatment, remain in place to prevent the spread of pests and diseases. (PTI)

Hazmat incident sparks lockdown at Pentagon
WASHINGTON, June 11: Part of the The Pentagon was placed under lockdown on Thursday after safety systems detected an air-quality issue, prompting precautionary measures. The Arlington County Fire Department said its Hazardous Materials Team responded to what it described as a “hazardous materials incident” at the US military headquarters. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for the affected area while assessing the situation. Emergency response teams were deployed, and officials said standard protection protocols were being followed as investigations continued into the cause of the incident. (AP)
