Training for cops on computer applications

 SHILLONG: As part of the crime control tracking and networking system (CCTNS), a training centre (IT) of the East Khasi Hills district police was inaugurated by the Superintendent of police State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) DN Jyrwa here on Thursday.

The project aims at training the police personnel of the state on computer applications including the CCTNS software. After the training, the project would be set up in all the police stations linking it with the police stations all over the country

Speaking on the occasion, state police officials including SP(City) M Kharkrang, SP (Crime ) Vivek Syiem deliberated at length the various benefits of the project.

The first batch of the police personnel will undergo training from August 22 for a 20 hour long training programme over a span of one week.

The State Government is planning to fully make the project functional by 2013.The CCTNS is a part of ‘e’ governance plan to improve facilities of collection, storage,retrieval, analysis, transfer and sharing of data and information between police stations, state headquarters and central police organisations.

Once installed in the state, if anyone is taken to a police station he or she will be photographed and personal information would be recorded. The details will become a part of huge cache of information on criminals in the state that will be shared with police authorities of several other states.
