State told to be vigilant against price rise

SHILLONG: The State Government has been asked to be vigilant to check price rise during the meeting held between the officials of various state governments and the Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ramvilas Paswan in Delhi on July 4 in Delhi.

Meghalaya is also affected with the price rise of onion and other items and the Centre wanted a check on hoardings.

The principal secretary in charge food and civil supplies P W Ingty said on Monday that though the market prices would depend on the supply from outside, the respective deputy commissioners have been asked to be vigil to check the hoardings of commodities.

“We are issuing instructions to the deputy commissioners to make inspections so that the consumers are not affected”, Ingty said.

Food security Bill : The meeting in Delhi also discussed the immediate need to implement the provisions of the Food Security Bill.

Ingty said that beneficiaries are being verified by the respective deputy commissioners before issuing ration cards.

He said another meeting will be held with the deputy commissioners to finalise the matter.

The scheme ensures providing items like wheat at Rs 2 per kg, rice at Rs 3 per kg and jowar at Rs 1 per kg.
