Belfast, June 22: Wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker has been appointed Ireland’s new T20I captain and will lead a youthful 14-member squad in the upcoming two-match series against India at Stormont on June 26 and 28.
Tucker, who previously served as vice-captain and twice led the side as stand-in skipper, succeeds Paul Stirling in the role. His appointment means Ireland now has different captains across all three international formats.“It’s a great privilege to captain Ireland. My aim is to lead by example, bring the best out of the players and help develop the next generation of cricketers as we build towards the 2028 T20 World Cup,” Tucker said.The new skipper acknowledged the challenge posed by India, who arrive fresh from winning the T20 World Cup.“India are a powerhouse in T20 cricket. It will be a huge test for us, but also a great opportunity to measure ourselves,” he added. (IANS)
