SHILLONG, June 24: The state Health department has been conferred the SKOCH Award 2026 for its initiative, ‘Transforming Breast Cancer Screening in Meghalaya Using Artificial Intelligence.’
The award was presented on June 20 during the 108th SKOCH Summit in New Delhi. It was received on behalf of the department by Dr Carolinda Iangrai, Additional Director of Health Services (MCH&FW), and Tenneychell Khongrangjem, State Programme Officer (NP-NCD).
The initiative uses AI-based thermal screening technology to enable the early detection of breast cancer, particularly for women in remote and underserved regions. As part of the state’s preventive healthcare strategy, the programme integrates community outreach, screening, and referral services to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment.
The recognition highlights the state’s efforts in adopting technology-driven solutions to expand quality healthcare access across Meghalaya.
