Shillong, June 27: Hasebinson Marwein and Marqueenless Ramsiej emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s categories respectively at the 7th Shillong 10K Run 2026, organised by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) here on Saturday.
Held annually to commemorate International Olympic Day, observed on June 23 to mark the establishment of the International Olympic Committee in 1894, the event once again attracted hundreds of participants, ranging from teenagers to senior citizens.
The race was organised with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the East Khasi Hills district administration, Meghalaya Police and a large team of volunteers.
Hasebinson produced a strong finish to edge a competitive men’s field, crossing the line ahead of 2024 champion Wanbok L Mawphlang, who settled for second place. Junom Phawa completed the podium with a creditable third-place finish after remaining among the front-runners for much of the race.
In the women’s event, Marqueenless returned to the top step of the podium after reclaiming the title she had previously won in 2024. One of Meghalaya’s leading long-distance runners, she had also finished third in the 2022 and 2023 editions. Jidalin Tympuin claimed second place, while Maryqueen Pale finished third.
Both champions received cash prizes of Rs 5,000, while the runners-up and third-place finishers were awarded Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. Consolation prizes were also presented to athletes finishing between fourth and eighth places. In addition, participants aged above 55 years were felicitated with tokens of appreciation by the organisers.
The race was flagged off by Indian long-distance running legend Binningstar Lyngkhoi and international karate medalist Damang Syngkon, who recently took charge as the East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer.
MSOA Working President John F Kharshiing and General Secretary Finely L Pariat were also present on the occasion.
They encouraged participants to register for the Sohra International Half Marathon 2026, scheduled for September 4, which will also feature 10km and 5km races. Registration for the event will open on July 1, with entries limited to 11,000 participants.
