KSU demands repair of VIP road

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Thursday demanded repairing of the entire stretch of VIP Road from Mawroh to Mawkynroh.

A delegation of KSU on Thursday also met the PWD Minister S Dhar and submitted a petition in this regard.

According to KSU, condition of the road which has been constructed at a budget of Rs 3.06 crore is pathetic and road is full of potholes. Stating that several potholes lies in the stretch from Mawroh to Mawkynroh, KSU said that dilapidated condition of the road also increase the risk of accidents on the road.

“The entire stretch of the road should be repaired not by covering potholes but by black topping of the entire stretch, KSU said in the memorandum. The VIP Road from Mawlai Mawroh to the Shillong Airport, Umroi will be complete by December 2014.The work was allotted to one Charlet Dkhar. Out of the total 3.46 crore, a sum amount of Rs 2.07crore has so far been released to the concerned contractor.
