Report on racial attacks on N-E people submitted to Home Ministry

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, who received the Bezbaruah Committee report on Friday, said that the Central Government will give top priority to the vital report.

The Committee under the Chairmanship of M.P. Bezbaruah, Member, North Eastern Council, and others which studied the spate of racial attacks on Northeasterners in various metropolis of the country, on Friday submitted its report to Rijiju.

Rijiju, who hails from the North East region, received the report on behalf of the Ministry of Home Affairs and said that the same would be processed on a priority basis. The Committee was constituted in February 2014 to look into the various concerns of persons hailing from the Northeastern states who are living in different parts of the country, especially the metropolitan areas, and to suggest suitable remedial measures which could be taken up by the Government.

The Committee was chaired by Bezbaruah and had H.W.T. Syiem, former Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, and three other retired IAS officers as members. Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi, was also in the team of the Ministry of Home Affairs to assist the Committee.
