NEIGRIHMS performs east India’s first TTVR heart procedure
SHILLONG, July 3: The Department of Cardiology at NEIGRIHMS has achieved a medical milestone by performing a minimally invasive heart intervention on a 27-year-oldwoman, marking the first such procedure in Eastern India. The patient suffered from severe valve leakage and heart failure followingopen-heart surgery performed a decade ago. A second open-heart surgery was considered high-risk due to potential complications, leading the multidisciplinary “Heart Team” to opt for a trans-catheter tricuspid valve repair (TTVR). The team, led by Prof. Animesh Mishra, Head of Cardiology, along with Prof.Manish Kapoor and Prof. Amit Malviya, performed the three-hour procedure in collaboration with the CTVS and Anaesthesia departments. Technical support was provided by Meril Life Sciences. This is only the eighth such procedure performed in India and the first time it has been conducted on a young patient in the country. Notably, the procedure at NEIGRIHMS cost less than half of what is typically charged elsewhere in India.
