Fundamental Right goes for a toss

A vehicle parked on a public footpath blocks pedestrian access and forces people to walk on the road, in the city on Friday. It is pertinent to recall that the Supreme Court of India had recently ruled that the right to walk safely on demarcated, unobstructed footpaths is part of the fundamental right to life guaranteed under Article 21, and that pedestrian rights take precedence over the convenience of motor vehicles.
