GNLA gen secy has access to mobile phone inside jail

JOWAI: Using mobile phones inside high-security prisons in Meghalaya is no longer a rarity.

After several cases of use of cell phones were detected in prisons across the State including the Shillong District Jail, authorities of the Jowai District Jail recently seized a cell phone from an under-trial prisoner locked in the jail.

On Friday, this Correspondent was informed GNLA general secretary Dalbin N Marak alias Amikka is using cell phones inside the Jowai District Jail and regularly in touch with his fellow GNLA leaders.

Reliable sources have informed that the GNLA general secretary is keeping in touch with his fellow militant leaders, relatives and friends using his phone despite being locked inside the District Jail. Dalbin was arrested on November 24, 2013 from Tura along with one Pingku Palley Ch Marak – a government employee (Laboratory technician) from Tura – by the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commandos of the Meghalaya Police.

He was first kept at Williamnagar District Jail and was later shifted to Jowai District Jail.
