ATLANTA, July 4: Oasis classic Wonderwall has become the unofficial anthem of England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, with players and supporters joining together in post-match singalongs following each of the team’s victories in the United States.
The tradition continued after England’s hard-fought knockout win over DR Congo in Atlanta, prompting Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher to post on social media: “C’mon England c’mon Wonderwall.”
Captain Harry Kane described the spontaneous singalong as one of his favourite moments in an England shirt, while former goalkeeper Joe Hart said the celebrations allowed players to briefly set aside the pressures of elite football and connect with supporters.
Originally released by Oasis in 1995, Wonderwall has enjoyed a resurgence during the tournament. (Agencies)
