SHILLONG, July 7: Police are continuing their inquiry into allegations of serial rapes circulating on social media against a youth from Shillong, even as no formal complaint has been lodged by any of the alleged victims so far.
The matter came to light after the image of the youth went viral on various social media platforms, accompanied by posts alleging that he had sexually exploited several young women over a period of time and intimidated some of them by threatening to release their private videos.
The viral posts also claimed that one of the alleged victims became pregnant and appealed to the public to spread awareness so that those affected could obtain justice.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem on Tuesday said the police are currently enquiring into the matter. The medical examination of the victim has been completed and an FIR is being filed,” Syiem said.
Arrest and other processes of investigation will commence once the case is registered, Syiem added.
