SHILLONG: While opposing handing over of the RP Chest Hospital campus to a private party, the Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) has welcomed the move of the State Government to set up a medical college in the State.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, the MMSA general secretary Dr A War said the association held a detailed discussion on the proposal of the Government to set up a medical college on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode at RP Chest Hospital campus in the city.

He said the government should further upgrade the existing infrastructure/facilities of the RP Chest Hospital.

The MMSA general secretary suggested setting up of a research centre of excellence on chest diseases in the line of LRS Institute, New Delhi. “The proposed medical college should be of benefit to the indigenous students of the State in terms of seats and fee structure,” he said.
