SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner, Supply, East Khasi Hills District, has ordered shopkeepers in the city to sell onions at a price ranging between Rs 35-45 per kg.

In Shillong, the price of onion varies from one shop to another and from one locality to another.

Reacting to this, the Deputy Commissioner, Supply, Sanjay Goyal, said it was not possible to fix a permanent rate since onions comes from different places and prices are fixed based on the quality of onions. The District Price Monitoring Committee, on July 1, had fixed the price of onion at Rs 35-45 per kg.

According to Goyal, on Friday there was a complaint of overcharging at Laban but when magistrates were send to inquiry the allegations, the allegation could not be verified.

Goyal also mentioned that the District Administration is cracking down on hoardings to ensure that the price of onions does not go beyond the fixed limit.
