SHILLONG, July 8: The 19.3-km Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge over the Brahmaputra river, set to be India’s longest river bridge, has reached 76% physical completion. Connecting Meghalaya’s Phulbari with Assam’s Dhubri, the project is on track to meet its September 2028 deadline.
According to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the financial progress of the project stands at 74%. The four-lane bridge on NH-127B is being constructed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at a cost of ₹4,997 crore, supported by a JICA ODA loan.
NHIDCL officials expressed optimism that the work will be completed within the scheduled timeframe.
The bridge is considered a critical infrastructure project for Northeast India. Supported by 199 pillars, it will significantly enhance surface connectivity by reducing the travel distance between Phulbari and Dhubri by over 200 km. Once operational, the bridge is expected to streamline logistics, ease the transportation of goods, and stimulate economic activity across the region.
