SHILLONG, July 10: As many as 250 people benefited from a free health screening camp organised by the Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong (RCOCS) in association with Chowdhury Pharmacy at Police Bazar on Thursday.
The programme, titled ‘Know Your Numbers’, was organised as part of Rotary International’s ‘Create Lasting Impact’ initiative and offered free blood pressure, weight and random blood sugar screenings.
The health camp revealed that 53 participants were found to have one or more lifestyle-related health conditions. Overweight was the most common finding, affecting 27 participants, followed by hypertension in 10 participants, hypertension combined with overweight in seven, diabetes with hypertension in five and diabetes alone in four.
According to the organisers, the majority of those screened belonged to the age group of 40-59 years.
Notably, the oldest participants—a 75-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman—recorded normal health parameters during the screening.
The organisers said the findings underscored the growing need for regular health check-ups and healthier lifestyle practices to prevent non-communicable diseases through timely diagnosis and intervention.
