SHILLONG, July 11: The Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered 10.42 grams of suspected narcotics during a late-night operation at Lumshyiap on Friday.
The accused, identified as 27-year-old Kasimuddin from Darrang in Assam’s Udalguri district, was caught following a period of police surveillance. According to officials, Kasimuddin was allegedly preparing to sell the contraband when the ANTF team intercepted him.
Investigation revealed that the accused previously resided at Lum Survey and was released from jail only a few months ago after being arrested for a drug-related case in Khliehriat.
Following the arrest, Kasimuddin was handed over to Nongmensong Police Station. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police are now conducting further inquiries to trace the source of the drugs and identify other individuals involved in the trafficking network.
