Advertisement for vacant Grade-IV posts in Kolkata Meghalaya House published only in Khasi dailies
TURA: In what can only be termed as biasness on the part of the Meghalaya General Administration Department (GAD) an advertisement for appointment to the posts of Fourth Grade Staff for the Kolkata Meghalaya House was given only in local Khasi dailies leaving job aspirants belonging to other communities in the dark, the Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) has claimed.
The GHSMC in this regard has written to the Minister, GAD, urging the concerned department to put out a free and fair advertisement so as to benefit all communities of the State.
“As the State of Meghalaya does not have a single traditional local language and the Khasi language is not understood by each and every individual of the State, particularly by the Garo community, we urge the concerned department to put out a free and fair advertisement into this particular matter,” general secretary of the GHSMC, Augustine Marak, said.
Stating that it had nothing against the particular advertisement published in the Khasi dailies, the GHSMC, however, said the same advertisement needed to be published in other newspapers for greater public awareness, especially for interested youths of the State who would be able to apply for the same.
The GHSMC also alleged that in earlier cases also the State authorities have ignored the 40 per cent job reservation for the Garos which was earmarked under the State Job Reservation Policy of 1972.
The GHSMC also requested the concerned authorities to do away with such bad practices in future and to appoint candidates as per the Reservation Policy.
Further, on behalf of different communities residing in the State the GHSMC has requested the concerned authorities to defer the last date for the submission of forms and to publish fresh advertisements in English, Garo and Khasi newspapers for the benefit of all.
