New Delhi, July 18: A woman hurled ink-like liquid at Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday while he was addressing supporters at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar following the removal of climate activist and educator Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site.

The incident briefly disrupted the programme, with commotion breaking out as supporters rushed towards the stage after the ink was thrown at Dipke. The identity of the woman and the motive behind the incident are yet to be ascertained. Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the episode.

The incident came shortly after Dipke announced that he would begin an indefinite hunger strike in protest against Wangchuk’s removal from the demonstration site. The announcement had drawn supporters to the gathering, where the disruption took place.

The CJP, protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar since June 6, is demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak case. The protestors were joined by innovator and activist Sonam Wangchuk, who, on June 28, officially began an indefinite hunger strike at the protest site.

Meanwhile, Wangchuk, who had been on a hunger strike for 21 days at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, was shifted to a hospital early on Saturday after his health deteriorated. The move was carried out in compliance with directions of the Delhi High Court and on the advice of medical experts.

Police personnel reached the protest site in the morning and shifted Wangchuk to the hospital amid sloganeering and protests by CJP activists and the public gathered there. Addressing the gathering following this, Dipke said the protest would continue and accused the police of forcibly removing Wangchuk from the spot. He also announced that he has initiated a hunger strike. During this, the woman came out from among the supporters and hurled ink on the CJP founder.
