NEW DELHI, July 18: Police shifted activist Sonam Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital on the 21st day of his hunger strike, citing medical advice and Delhi High Court directions. Hospital authorities stated that while Wangchuk is suffering from dehydration and metabolic abnormalities, he has refused IV fluids, medication, and oral rehydration. He remains under close monitoring.
Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) intensified its protest over the NEET paper leak, with founder Abhijeet Dipke launching an indefinite hunger strike to demand the Prime Minister’s resignation. The CJP accused police of high-handedness during the early morning operation and confirmed it will proceed with its planned march to Parliament on July 20.
The police action triggered sharp criticism from Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Sharad Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav, and Mamata Banerjee, who termed it an attack on democratic dissent. The BJP defended the move as a necessary humanitarian step to protect Wangchuk’s life. (Agency)
