Agartala: Sporadic incidents of violence marred polling in the three-tier Tripura Panchayat polls on Tuesday.
At least 23 people were injured in the violence.
The state election authority has decided to hold re-polling in two booths in North Tripura and one in West Tripura tomorrow because of faulty ballots due to printing errors.
Meanwhile, BJP, All India Trinamool Congress and Congress have also demanded fresh polling under total control of Central Paramilitary Forces.
State Election Commissioner (SEC) Y Kumar also admitted the fact that he and his officers, District Magistrates and Block Development Officers had received hundreds of complaints related to booth capturing and violence from various parts of the state over phone throughout the day.
“I have noted down all the complaints and asked all others to register the complaints and take appropriate action against the accused immediately but holding fresh poll is not possible,” Kumar stated.
According to report, opposition supporters were allegedly threatened by the CPI-M hooligans including some MLAs across the state since previous night and from morning at the beginning of polling, they perpetrated physical attacks in front of police and officials even at the polling booths.
As many as 23 people were hospitalized in different places. (UNI)
