Guwahati: One NDFB(S) female terrorist has been arrested in connection with the kidnap and murder of four persons in Baksa district while the curfew being relaxed during day time with situation there started getting back to normal, a senior police official said.
The administration will, however, continue the night curfew to avoid any untoward situation, he added.
“Last night we have arrested an active woman cadre of the NDFB(S). During interrogation it was revealed that she played an important role in kidnapping and killing the four persons,” a senior police official in the district told PTI.
“Situation is normal now. Since yesterday (Tuesday), we have lifted the curfew during day time. But curfew from 8pm to 8am will continue for about one more week,” Baksa Deputy Commissioner Vinod Seshan said claiming that situation at the Salbari sub-division where the kidnapping happened last Friday was getting back to normalcy.
Besides, few others have also been picked up for questioning in connection with the kidnap on Friday, he added.
Incidentally, four linkmen were arrested for assisting the terrorist organisation in the incident. From Saturday onwards, indefinite curfew was clamped in Gobardhana and Anand Bazar police stations in Baksa as well as the northern side of railway line in Barpeta district
Security forces, comprising Police, CRPF and Army, will continue its operations to nab culprits of the kidnap, Seshan added.
Constitute one-Man commission to inquire into BTAD violence
Assam government on Wednesday constituted one-man Commission of Inquiry to inquire into the causes and circumstances leading to incidents of violence that took place in Baksa and Kokrajhar districts in early May.
The Commission will be headed by retired Judge of the Gauhati High Court Justice Mutum B K Singh, an official release said.
Apart from ascertaining the causes leading to the violence during May 1 and 2, 2014, the Commission will assess the response on the part of the administration in containing the situation and in providing relief to those affected.
It will determine whether there was any political conspiracy and will identify the individuals or groups or organisations responsible for the violence.
The Inquiry Commission will give recommendations for ensuring long term peace and ethnic harmony in the BTAD areas amongst all communities.
The Commission of Inquiry will submit its report within next six months. (PTI)
