Kolkata, July 20: The Calcutta High Court has directed the police to immediately arrest Delhi Capitals and Bengal wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel in connection with an alleged rape case registered against him in West Bengal.
According to reports, the High Court has also instructed investigating authorities to seize the 23-year-old cricketer’s electronic devices as part of the investigation and to safeguard the privacy and dignity of the complainant.
The case stems from an FIR lodged at Mogra Police Station in Hooghly district in June. The complaint invokes several non-bailable provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to rape and criminal intimidation, along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
The complainant, a medical student, has alleged that Porel threatened to circulate her intimate photographs and videos. The court reportedly observed that confiscating the electronic devices was necessary. (Agencies)
