NONGPOH, July 23: Fifty fish farmers from Ri-Bhoi district participated in a capacity-building programme on modern aquaculture at the office of the Superintendent of Fisheries on Thursday.
The training was organised by the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Meghalaya. It focused on scientific techniques to improve freshwater fish production and promote sustainable aquaculture.
Dr Subhendu Adhikari, Principal Scientist at ICAR-CIFA, conducted technical sessions on advanced farming methods. During the event, improved Amur carp seeds were distributed to the participants to help boost productivity in the district.
The farmers are also beneficiaries of solar-powered aerators provided by the Ri-Bhoi district administration under a government scheme. This outreach initiative, part of the North Eastern Hill (NEH) Programme, was supported by ICAR-CIFA Director Dr PK Sahoo and Meghalaya Director of Fisheries Dr R Ch Marak to strengthen the state’s fisheries sector.
