Coal trucks seized for violating NGT ban

JOWAI: Jaintia Hills Police have seized two trucks, both 12-wheelers, which were transporting coal in violation of the NGT ban in the State. A case has been registered against owner of the trucks Marbiang Passah of Mootyrshiah village in West Jaintia Hills.
One truck was seized at Phramer in Lad Shangpung while the other was seized by Ladrymbai Police from Wapungshnong.
Sources have, meanwhile, informed that many truckers are violating the NGT ban in Jaintia Hills by loading coal in the midnight and diverting the trucks from Shangpung to Lanka in Assam via Garampani to arrive at Beltola, Guwahati.
According to a UNI report, the truckers along with the owner of the trucks and a coal dealer were arrested in connection with the violation of the NGT order.
