SHILLONG: The formal hand over of the administrative control of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MPSCB) by PHE department to the Forest and Environment department will be delayed.

Official sources on Sunday informed that the exercise was taking time since the PHE department had not been able to create two additional posts in the department to absorb the two officials who were currently attached with the MSPCB on deputation.

Presently, the post of chairman in the board is being headed by an officer of the PHE department in the rank of Additional Chief Engineer while an officer in the rank of Executive Engineer is the member-secretary.

“The Forest and Environment department cannot take over the administrative control of the board till PHE department absorbs its two officials,” official sources said adding that the state Government was still working on the modalities to pave way for a new dispensation to head the board who will be an officer not below the rank of Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF).

It may be recalled that he Cabinet on May 2 had approved the transfer of the administrative control of the MPSCB to the Forest and Environment department from PHE department.
