SHILLONG: Amid the demand for the disqualification of MLAs who are also holding the post of MDCs, Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh said, “personally he believes in one man one post policy.”

“Moreover, morally it is not good for the MLAs to hold the post of MDCs and draw double pay,” Rowell, who also holds Law portfolio, told reporters on Monday.

There are as many as eight legislators holding the posts of MDCs. They are Stephanson Mukhim( Independent), District Council Affairs Minister HDR Lyngdoh(Congress),KHADC chief executive member Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit(HSPDP),Metbah Lyngdoh (UDP), Pyngshngainlang Syiem (Congress), Phlastingwell Pangniang (HSPDP), Deputy Speaker Sanbor Shullai(NCP) and Brolding Nongsiej (UDP).

Rowell Lyngdoh never held the dual posts of MLA and MDC. After losing Assembly elections in 1988, he contested the district council election and became MDC in 1989. Later in 1990, he became the Chief Executive Member of KHADC. Lyngdoh, however, expressed ignorance on any law which bars elected representative holding dual posts in the State. Asked about if any new law will be framed by the State Government to address the issue of dual posts, Lyngdoh said,”It depends on the voice of the majority”. He also suggested that the Congress party can frame a policy to bar dual posts.
