SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Eco-friendly Students’ Union has questioned the validity of the credentials of the state government to protect the environment.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, MEFSU publicity secretary Samborwell Kharjana said that the president of the union, Rangdajied Marwein, also rebukes the government for playing no role at all in protecting the environment.

Stating that 28 out of 31 water bodies are polluted and not fit for consumption purposes as per the CAG report, he questioned the government for remaining silent on the issue.

“ It clearly shows that the NGT and CAG are more proactive in saving our environment than our government,” MEFSU said while stating that the contribution of the industries to the state is nothing apart from consuming power supply, making the government indebted and violating environmental laws.
