Two arrested for trying to smuggle mobiles, drugs into jail

SHILLONG: Two former inmates of the Shillong District jail were arrested on Wednesday while trying to smuggle two cell phones, two extra mobile batteries, nine packets of Ganja and four packets of powder substance suspected to be drugs inside the jail premises.

The duo — Vijay Chetri of Lumdiengjri and Bimal Chanda of Madanryting – were preparing to through the items when they were arrested, sources said.

The jail staff were monitoring the movement of the accused through the security camera, sources said.

It may be mentioned that Vijay Chetri, who was arrested in connection with a mobile phone theft case, was released on July 18 while Bimal Chanda, an accused in a drug peddling case, was released on bail on July 15 last.
