NEW DELHI: The India women’s senior national team’s preparatory camp for the Asian Games has been trimmed down to 31 from the initial group of 36 campers, head coach Tarun Roy has informed.

Defenders Nirmala (Haryana), Sumitra Marandi (Jharkhand), midfielders Dorothi Oriya (Assam), Neha Kumari (Bihar), and forward Jabamoni Soren (Orissa) have all been released from the camp currently going on in Mumbai.

These players were picked from the women’s nationals held in Assam earlier this year and were in their maiden national camp.

Among the five culled ‘purely on performance basis’ as maintained by coach Roy, striker Jabamoni has represented India U-19 national team in 2010 while midfielder Sumitra has donned the national colours at the U-16 level.

The team will be travelling to China for an exposure trip after the camp, which will run until August 25.

The Asian Games start in September. This will the second time that the women’s team will participate in the prestigious event, the last time being back in 1998.

Despite Dorothi’s absence, there are still 12 North Eastern women in the camp – 11 from Manipur and one from Sikkim. (Agencies)
