SHILLONG: While appealing the prospective investors to explore Meghalaya, Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong has downplayed the problem of land acquisition in the State.

“I would advise the investors to convert their words into actions respecting the native sentiments and expectations of employment and development of the region. The Government is ready to provide even mass stretch of land across the State to all potential investors,” Lanong said while delivering his keynote address during the investors’ meet in the city on Friday.

“When there is investment flowing into the State then there will be no issues of land allocation for large, medium and small scale industries in Meghalaya,” Lanong claimed.

Commenting on a proposal by an investor to set up a thermal power plant in the State, Lanong asserted that the State would be interested in helping the investor since coal is readily available here.

He sought investment in the infrastructure sector to develop low-cost housing and dwelling facilities for Shillongites by developing a Greater Shillong township for which the government is eager to provide land within the framework of native laws.

“Give us good houses, we will give you land,” the Deputy Chief Minister added.

Tourism being one major sector of investment in Meghalaya, he appealed investors to invest in good resorts and star category hotels in and around tourist destination in the State.

The Deputy Chief Minister also added that medium and small scale industries are the growth drivers of a State and nation at large and such projects are always welcome in Meghalaya.
