TURA: Shillong police have made a sensational breakthrough into last week’s attack on a policeman and abduction of another following the arrest of two gang members from a night bus in Shillong early Wednesday morning.

SWAT commandos swooped down on the night bus (Aashirwad) at Mawiong and immediately took two youths identified as Sengseng and James into their custody.

Both were taken for interrogation and police sources revealed that the two had confessed to be part of the gang which waylaid the policeman, Battalion Constable Avijeet Mazumdar and his companion Saumendu Chakraborty. The duo revealed that they were members of the recently formed group ‘Achik National Cooperative Army (ANCA).

One of the arrested persons is believed to be the younger brother of the gang leader William S Sangma who has fled to Goalpara district shortly after the abduction.
