NONGSTOIN: The Lyngngam Indigenous Federation (LIF) has extended support to the State-wide bandh called on August 6 by the State Co-ordination Committee of Coal Owners’, Miners’ and Dealers’ Forum (SCCCOMDF) to protest against the failure of the State Government Committee to follow the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives which resulted in the formation of another committee to carry out the works given to the earlier committee that can pave the way for the transportation of the extracted coal lying in different coal mines.
The decision was taken by the LIF at a meeting held at Umdang, West Khasi Hills on Monday.
LIF president Ever Pearl Mawsor said that they have decided to support the bandh call since the ban on coal mining and transportation of the extracted coal has affected not only the lives of thousands of people involved in mining but also the economy of the State.
“We have informed our members in all units to select volunteers to ensure success of the 12-hour bandh,” Mawsor added.
