SHILLONG: The BJP has taken exception to the move to introduce Garo Customary Law Bill in GHADC.

In a statement issued here on Monday, David Ch. Marak, State vice president, Meghalaya Pradesh, said that law of the land was derived from the culture of the forefathers and ancestors from time immemorial.

“In the past, our ancestors had no written law for us Garos and yet, they had ruled and controlled the sons of the soil without any hitch”, he said.

Condemning the move to dilute the culture and tradition of Garos, the BJP leader said that the move to give recognition to children born of mixed parentage cannot be tolerated and urged the members of the District Council to refrain from framing any law which goes against the interest of the Garo community.
