TURA: A core member of GNLA’s hit squad from Chokpot that was involved in the cold blooded execution of Josbina Sangma, mother of four children, on June 3, has given himself up to police in Tura.

Police sources revealed that GNLA cadre Rakman Marak surrendered to authorities at Tura police station on Sunday citing unhappiness with the ‘methods’ of the outfit in its fight for a Garo state.

He surrendered with his GNLA identity card but without arms.

Police sources further revealed that he was in the same group of militants led by senior GNLA leader Rakkam which came face to face in an encounter with SWAT commandos in Chokpot during which Rakkam was shot dead.

A PTI report from Guwahati adds: Meanwhile, a suspected GNLA militant and a suspected UALA member were killed on Monday in two separate encounters with a joint team of army and police in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya and Goalpara district of Assam respectively.
