NONGSTOIN: The Khasi Student’ Union (KSU) Nongstoin Circle has urged Lok Sabha member from Shillong, Vincent H. Pala, to persuade the PWD (National Highway Division) to strengthen and black top the road from Nongstoin leading to the 100-bedded Civil Hospital at the earliest since the road has been ignored by the concerned authorities for a long time now.

In a memorandum addressed to the MP, the KSU stated that the 7-km road has turned from bad to worse and it has become difficult for small vehicles and even ambulances to ply the said road. Commuters have no other option but to continue to bear the brunt of travelling on one of the worst roads in the State.

The KSU also stated that a testimony to its pathetic state can be ascertained from the number of vehicles that break down on a daily basis on this road. It was also stated that the stretch also leads to the Civil Hospital, Nongstoin, making the journey perilous for the patients.

The KSU also mentioned that during the winter season the road turns dusty while in summer the road is muddy.

It was also reminded that several pressure groups and NGOs including the FKJGP, WYF and WKSU along with the local MDC and MLA had appealed for funds for reconstruction of the road but to no avail.
