NONGSTOIN: Land owners and coal traders of Maweit in West Khasi Hills have expressed shock at the decision of the Hima Nongstoin Land Owners, Coal Traders & Producers Association (HNLOCT&PA) which has decided against endorsing the bandh called on Wednesday by the State Co-ordination Committee of Coal Owners, Miners and Dealers Forum.

“We are not just coal traders but also executive members of the HNLOCT&PA and we are surprised how only one person can decide on whether to take part in the bandh or not,” the coal traders said, while also informing that they learnt of the decision only after reading the newspapers.

The coal traders and land owners of Maweit area have decided to extend support to the 12-hour bandh on Wednesday.

The land owners and coal traders also alleged that HNLOCT&PA has politicized the issue of life and death of thousands of people involved in coal mining in the State.

The coal traders and land owners of Maweit area have also decided to part ways with the HNLOCT&PA.
