SHILLONG: A woman identified as Nltu Marak of Tura has moved a contempt petition in the High Court of Meghalaya against Tura police chief MK Singh and two other cops.
The woman on Tuesday told The Shillong Times that she was illegally detained by Tura police from May 12 to 14, which is a clear cut violation of the Supreme Court verdict pertaining to a case between DK Basu and the State of West Bengal.
She said that she was arrested without following the necessary formalities fixed by Supreme Court. The lady was arrested after an FIR was filed by one person where she was accused of kidnapping a girl.
She said that she was not informed about her rights and even her family and friends were not informed about the arrest.
The other two cops against whom contempt petitions have been filed are Investigating officer CP Marak and Pushpa Chettri of women cell of Tura police.
The High Court has asked the trio to file their affidavits within four weeks.
