TURA: The bankers working in Garo Hills have postponed their Friday strike by two days to give time for the Meghalaya government to take necessary steps to ensure the safe release of their abducted staffer who was taken at gunpoint by armed militants from the Gasuapara-Dalu road on Tuesday.

The staff of the State Bank of India (SBI) in the Garo Hills region had planned to go on a daylong protest shutdown in the entire western region of the state on Friday.

The decision to postpone the strike was taken after the Chief General Manager of SBI in Guwahati appealed to the SBI association in Garo Hills to postpone the strike. The Guwahati office is sending its Circle Development Officer to meet the agitating staffers of Garo Hills in Tura on Friday.
