JOWAI: In view of the directive of the Government that assessment of extracted coal has to be conducted both at the mine sites and at the depots, the WJH Deputy Commissioner has informed that the District Administration has constituted seven teams to undertake the task and assess the quantity of coal in as many as 14 locations including Amlarem Civil Sub-Division within the District. The Government directive is in compliance with the NGT ban on coal mining.
The teams will conduct assessment in locations including Lad Mustem, Shkentalang of Amlarem Civil Sub- Division, Tongkiat, Iooksi, Lakadong-Iooksi, Biar Raliang, Raliang Pyntei, Sarhen Raliang, Raliang Sarhen, Lakadong, Shangpung Khliehrangnah, Shangpung Moosyiem, Phramer and Pasyih.
The assessment which will begin on August 11 will conclude the next day.
The district administration has asked the coal miners and traders to be present in their respective depots on both the days from 10.00 AM onwards during the inspection.
Coal miners can also contact Additional Deputy Commissioner, D.P Kharsati, Additional Deputy Commissioner, S.S Syiemlieh and Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Amlarem Sub-Division N.A.K Syiem for any query on the matter.
Meanwhile, the assessment of coal in East Jaintia Hills District will be conducted from August 11 to 13. The District Administration has asked all coal owners to be present in the concerned locations during the three days of inspection.
In a similar move, the West Khasi Hills DC has informed that verifying officers have been appointed to ascertain and quantify the amount of extracted coal lying in various mining sites and depots under West Khasi Hills District.
The exercise would be undertaken from August 9-14. All miners, local traders, coal owners/managers have been asked to contact the verifying Officers at Block Development Office, Mawshynrut (M.B. Tongper), Riangdo Police Station, Shallang Police Station and Nongstoin Police Station from August 9 onwards to lead the teams of engineers to their respective coal mines/ depots.
