Kohima: Leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Tokheho Yepthomi on Sunday said though 33 per cent reservation for women was passed by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and Municipal and Town Councils, it had not been implemented by the Naga People Front-led Democratic Alliance of the Nagaland government.

In a statement here, Mr Tokheho opined that qualified and determined women should contest in elections in order to uplift the status of women in the state.

On the 33 per cent reservation for women in municipal and town councils, he asserted that NPF-led DAN Government was not firm in their decision.

Joining him, the NPCC president S I Jamir said deserving women in Nagaland should come up in politics and backed 33 per cent reservation for women in NLA and municipalities.

The Congress leaders were speaking at the one-day seminar on women empowerment through self help group (SHG) to commemorate the 67th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, organised by Nagaland Pradesh Mahilla Congress (NPMC) at DCC Conference Hall, Dimapur. (UNI)
