South Garo Hills without a DC for 3 months now

TURA: The absence of a full-fledged Deputy Commissioner in South Garo Hills since the last three months seems to have taken its toll on the functioning of the district administration with the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) Southern Zone threatening to resort to agitation if the situation is allowed to continue.
According to the GSU various departments in the district were facing extreme difficulties in their functioning with regard to pending paper work, pending bills, delay in declaration of DSC results as well as personal problems faced by villagers who are required to travel again and again to get a single work done due to the absence of a full-fledged official.
“Recently, the GSU demanded resettlement of the rate of domestic LPG cylinders in Baghmara which  is  Rs 482 per cylinder. This is unacceptable because in other districts the rate is only Rs 410 and the home delivery rate is also only Rs 450. This problem could not be solved as the administration could not function properly due to the absence of the DC,” the Baghmara union president, Chuba R Marak, said.
The Union has demanded that a Deputy Commissioner (full-fledged) is immediately appointed at Baghmara to solve the problems being faced by the people of South Garo Hills failing which it warned that it along with other NGOs and students of CWM Government College, Baghmara, would stage a picketing of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on August 20.
The Union has also appealed for cooperation from all citizens in their agitation.
