Encroachment allegation
JOWAI: A police team from West Jaintia Hills led by district police chief Herbert G. Lyngdoh paid a visit to Moolber village in Block-I along the inter-State border to assess the situation arising out of alleged encroachment by Assam a couple of days back.
It was alleged that the Karbi-Anglong Autonomous District Council (KAAC) of Assam, was trying to re-construct the market place constructed by the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) a decade ago.
The police team visited the village after receiving complaint from local villagers of Moolber.
Lyngdoh informed that when they reached the spot, they found that the KAAC was prepared to re-construct the market place in full swing.
“We did not see any labourer; however sand, bricks and other construction material were found there,” the SP informed.
The SP also met the headmen of Moolber and informed them that the District Police and the West Jaintia Hills district administration would not allow any activity in the village without prior intimation to the deputy commissioners of both West Khasi Hills and Karbi Anglong districts.
The SP also called up his Karbi Anglong counterpart and informed him of the development. According to Lyngdoh, the SP of Karbi-Anglong district has assured him that no such activity would be allowed without prior intimation and permission of both the deputy commissioners.
